Mr. Shanahan joined Silva, Kiernan & Associates in 2013 and heads the Real Estate Practice Area. Mr. Shanahan represents buyers and sellers in real estate transactions by preparing and recording closing documents, conducting title examinations, ensuring closings comply with statutory, lender, and title insurance requirements, and collecting and dispersing funds.
Mr. Shanahan serves on the Onslow County Board of Commissioners, having been elected in November 2018 and is an active member of the Onslow County Republican Party, previously representing the Party on the Onslow County Board of Elections.
Mr. Shanahan attended Law School at Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, where he was Executive Development Editor of the Journal of Legislation, a member of the Federalist Society, and graduated cum laude.
While at Notre Dame, Mr. Shanahan spent his summers clerking at the Onslow County District Attorney’s Office and Wake County District Attorney’s Office, respectively, where he gained valuable, hands-on experience, including prosecuting numerous District Court trials. During his semesters at Notre Dame, Mr. Shanahan worked with both the St. Joseph County Public Defender’s Office and a local Criminal Defense Attorney representing juveniles and adults charged with serious crimes.
Prior to law school, Mr. Shanahan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia in 2010 and graduated magna cum laude. While at Mercer, Mr. Shanahan was a member or Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, serving as Public Relations Chair, a member of the Judicial Committee, and Risk Management Officer. Outside the fraternity, Mr. Shanahan was an Honor Council Justice, Vice-Chairman of College Republicans, and an award-winning participant in Model Arab League.
