
Jacksonville Office, Associate Attorney
Mr. Owens was born in Birmingham, Alabama and moved to eastern North Carolina at a young age. He graduated from Jacksonville High School and then attended East Carolina University and majored in criminal justice. Mr. Owens played football at ECU and received several student-athlete academic awards.
After graduating with honors in college Mr. Owens moved to Birmingham, Alabama and attended Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. While there he participated and competed in the trial advocacy program and also clerked at prominent law firms in the area.
Mr. Owens graduated from law school with honors and moved back to Jacksonville, North Carolina in 1996 where he has practiced law to date. Mr. Owens has spent his legal career practicing primarily in the 4th Judicial District which includes Onslow, Jones, Duplin and Sampson Counties. During this time he represented clients in numerous areas of the law to include criminal law, family law, real estate, bankruptcy, and general civil litigation. His practice focuses on cases in District and Superior Court but has litigated a case that was argued before the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Despite the diversity of his practice he currently focuses on civil matters with a primary focus on personal injury cases such as motor vehicle collisions. In addition, he also currently represents Coastal Carolina Community College which is one of the pillars of our local community.
In addition to his law practice Mr. Owens has also been appointed and volunteered to serve on several Board of Directors. He was the Chairman for the Young Lawyers Division of the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers (now North Carolina Advocates for Justice) and later served on the general Board. Locally, he was the Treasurer and later President of the Onslow County Bar Association and was part of the committee that oversaw the building of the new Onslow County Courthouse. He has also served on the Boards for the Montessori School, Crimestoppers and Children’s Museum.
